Remember these two old sayings?
I know you just sang number 2 in your head! Well I did anyway! I love new financial year!
I also love thinking big. Doing this on a whiteboard really helps me see the big picture. So it turns out Queen Elizabeth and I are in Windsor - together. Well not technically together, we are separated by a castle wall. But we are together in the sense that we are in the same county, in the same country, at the same time. Although, she has a flag to let everyone know she's here. I don't have one of those.
Hard selling can be difficult and yucky. Persuading someone to buy something they don’t need is just icky – whichever way I look at it. When Dr Flint McGlaughlin, an American academic and business leader used the phrase ‘clarity trumps persuasion’ it certainly resonated with me.
Often when we think marketing, we think big fancy advertising campaigns, expensive events and flashy product launches. Yes, that is one facet of marketing, but for many businesses it is not the most important part of the marketing mix.
Effective marketing needs to be efficient. It must adjust to the local economic environment and the business objectives. It must be driven by data and this data needs to be analysed regularly to identify trends and make decisions based on this fluid information flow. Congratulations to all of the winners at the 2018 Australian Marketing Institute's night of nights. I felt privileged and honoured to be a judge of this year's awards.
Having a professionally prepared marketing plan can help you to stop wasting money on promotions that don't work and start getting pro-active about where you really want to be in the market.
Today I would like to issue a challenge.
I would like you to enter your place of business in the same manner a customer would. I would like you to do this once a month! |
